MEMORIAL for ROBERT GARDNER MCEWAN presently

The Memorialist joined the Hong Kong Government Service
on 15th November, 1890 and was appointed a Police Constable!
on that date. He arrived in the Colony on 28th December,
1890. Since then the Memorialist has been continually
in service under the Crown at Hong Kong. The dates and
perioda of his service will be found in the copy of the
official form marked Appendix annexed hereto. The
Memorialist therefore completed thirty four years ser:
:vice in November of this year. He reached the age of
fifty five years on 13th May, 1924 naving been born on
13th May, 1869.
From said form in the Appendix hereto, it will
be observed that on 6th March, 1898 the Memorialist was
transferred to be Inspector in charge of the Royal Naval
Yard Police and that he remained there until 26th May,
1901 when he was again re-transferred to the Hong Kong
Civil Service as a Sanitary Inspector of the third class.
He remained with the Hong Kong Civil Service during the
remainder of his service in different capacities as will
also be observed from the said form.
The Memorialist has qualified for a pension but
if reference is again made to said form, it will be ob:
:served that the whole period of his service in charge of
the Royal Naval Yard Police has been deducted in arriving
at the amount of the pension. Now this transference to
the Royal Naval Yard Police was not of the Memorialist's
seeking. It was suggested to him that he should transfer
but it was not explained that his transferring would
interfere with his pension and the Memorialist feels that
